Cinema Meets Reality

Many geeks laugh at how Hollywood portrays computers, especially in connection to the graphical user interface. You watch a film like Minority Report and just know that such a system doesn’t exist… or does it?

Oblong Industries, the developer of g-speak, is working to change that. And I have got to say, it’s pretty cool. Hats off to them!

One sweet piece of coffee making equipment

November 15, 2008

Hey,

For my birthday, my extraordinarily gorgeous wife got me the Holy Grail of coffee tampers: a Reg Barber.  It is so sweet.  The downside is that I don’t have a machine with a 58mm portafilter to tamp beautiful espresso into.  It’s like having the keys to a Ferrari, but no Ferrari.  But, within the next month or two, I’ll be upgrading not only my machine, but my grinder as well.  And when that day comes……………

Adios,

Jimmy

Wandering Goat

November 11, 2008

Hey,
Living here in Eugene is generally a pretty decent gig. It’s got its drawbacks, but then every place does. One thing we don’t lack here is places to get your coffee on. That’s the good news. . . The bad side comes in where you’re looking for a really good coffee. Problem solved, my fellow coffee aficionados. If you don’t know about it already, go visit the Wandering Goat. 2nd and Madison. They roast their own, they make it on a La Marzocco, they know how to do it right, and to boot, they’re just a great bunch of people. I love what they have done. btw, they were voted to have the best coffee in Eugene, so congrats to them for that. So there it is, go. Visit. Now. Stop reading, start drinking.

Later,

Jimmy

Backporch Coffee

October 4, 2008

Hey,

Just sitting in one of the best coffee places in Oregon, Backporch Coffee Roasters, in Bend.  My buddy, Dave Beach, owns it, does all the roasting and is a barista so talented that you’ll wanna cry.  I’m sitting here drinking a cup of his Guatemala that just came out of the French Press.   There are not many places where I’d rather be enjoying a cup.  If you’re ever in Bend, stop by.  You won’t be sorry.

Welcome to our World…….

geekinese (gik-In-iz) noun - the language spoken by most geeks, usually unintelligible to the average person. ex. My mom tried to buy a new pc today, but she got confused by all the geekinese the salesman was blabbing, so she bought a toaster instead.

Welcome to Geekinese.com!

What do we say about ourselves?  First of all, we are three geeks, but very different kinds of geeks.  So if you are asking, yes! there are different kinds of geeks.  One of us, Alex is primarily a computer geek; he can spout it off with the best of ‘em.  He can tell you quick as a bullet that your SMTP prefs are pooched, and why.  But he is also a romance geek, go figure…. loves romcoms, or seeing people act in romantic ways.  Then there’s Enoch.   He’s really a general-tech geek.  He knows IT almost as well as Alex, but he really grooves on A/V and gadgets like none other.  To boot, he is a bag (backpack, messenger, suitcase) aficionado; he has some of the coolest bags in the world.  Alex and Enoch are also photography buffs,  btw they only shoot with Canon.  And I’m Jimmy; I’m the most unconventional geek.  I will do just about anything for a GOOD coffee.  I love Stumptown coffee, or a Ethiopian Harar Boldgrain french-pressed.  I’m also a Star Wars nut.  Mostly,  I love the first trilogy, but I secretly love it all, to some degree.  So here we go.  We’ll post things that tweak, interest, annoy, provoke or hack us off.  I hope it’ll be fun, or at least make you think…………..

Peace out,

Jimmy
